A number of parking spaces at one of the biggest shopping areas in Reading are closed off for upgrade works.
Construction work is taking place in the car park of the Savacentre in Calcot, a major shopping area containing a Sainsbury’s superstore, a gym, a chemist and other facilities.
Workers can be seen turfing up concrete at the site, with temporary facilities set up for the construction.
The parking spaces have been sealed off to allow Sainsbury’s to install rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging in the car park.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson explained: “We know that demand for speedy, reliable and simple EV charging facilities in the UK continues to grow – that’s why Sainsbury’s is rolling out Smart Charge, our new best-in-class ultra-rapid charging service, at supermarkets up and down the country.
“This includes our Calcot store, where we are currently in the process of installing new EV Charging points.
“We would like to thank our customers for bearing with us while we make these changes in the car park and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
The work installing the 12 EV charging bays is expected to be completed by Autumn.
A webpage states that Sainsbury’s partnered with the Smart Charge dedicated EV business to provide rapid charging at its stores in January.
Smart Charge boasts that its bays allow drivers to fully charge their vehicle in as little as 30 minutes.
