A CELEBRATION of composer Charles Villiers Stanford is the inspiration for a concert taking place this weekend.
Members of Pangbourne Choral Society will hold Paying It Forward when they gather in the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel in Pangbourne College.
The programme Stanford’s diverse influences and impact, featuring works by composers including Brahms, Sullivan, and Vaughan Williams, alongside pieces by those he inspired.
It also features works by Muriel Herbert, Herbert Howells, Charles Wood, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, George Dyson, James MacMillan, and Gerald Finzi. There will also be some of Stanford’s own compositions, including Magnificat and Nunc in C.
Tenor James Gilchrist will be the guest soloist, music will come from the Southern Sinfonia Tickets are £15 or £8 for under 18s. They and can be booked online or at the door. The concert takes place on Saturday, March 9, from 7.30pm.
