Reading FC fans have reacted after the club revealed that they would be releasing a new quarterly published print magazine.

Named ‘The Royal Crest’, the club says that they aim to bring the fans closer to the ‘people, preparation, and moments that define the club.’

They announced that the first copy is available to be picked up in-store at the club shop with the first issue featuring an exclusive interview with club captain Lewis Wing, behind-the-scenes features, insights and stories from across the club.

The news has sparked a mixed reaction on social media, with some positive responses from fans who are pleased that the club are producing a print magazine after the club stopped producing an official printed matchday programme before the 2021/22 campaign.

One fan said: “Decent magazine. No point being negative for the sake of it. Reasonable article from the owner. The manager’s comments were the usual soundbites. Still not convinced about next season but we’ll see what August brings.”

Another added: “I missed reading the occasional programme so it’s nice to see something like this available.”

Another said: “This is a quality magazine. I see a lot of negativity on here, but you can’t blanket hate everything when you’ve not seen it. Have a read of the magazine and you’ll realise this is top work from everyone who is involved in making it happen.”

One more added: “A sensible way to do it, no point of doing it every match as it isn’t financially worth it. Let’s hope it is well written and worth buying.”

However, some fans were critical of the announcement and believe that other things should be focusing on other priorities.

One fan said: “No thanks, it’s just propaganda to push an agenda and ‘win’ the dissenters over there’ll be no real revelations or inside information, updates on stuff the fans want to hear, it’ll be what Lewis has for tea and a holiday snap from Louisiana.”

Another said: “So out of touch. Give a season ticket update go on. How low is it? Sack Leam and buy some players or it’s going to be hell at the start of the season.”

One more added: “Whilst I don’t ever wish on us what we had under Dai. Every move the current owners have made since the end of the season has shown how out of touch they are with us as a fanbase. No sale on kits, subscriptions for loyalty now a magazine that no one asked for. “
