A new diner that opened this year in Reading could stay open until 2am at weekends.
The Mr T’s fast food restaurant opened on Friday, August 9 to serve burgers, parmesan, kebabs, pizzas and more to hungry guests.
The website for the company boasts celebrity patronage from boxers Floyd Mayweather, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
Now, the franchisees of the Reading outlet want to keep serving food and non-alcoholic drinks until 2am from Friday to Sunday, and until midnight from Monday to Thursday.
Mr T’s is a halal certified eatery, which has been given a ‘fully halal’ status by review site Feed The Lion.
Many businesses seek extended licences to serve food past 11pm for observers of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, where adherents must fast during daylight hours.
Food and drink can only be consumed after sunset and before dawn.
But to be able to serve food and drinks between 11pm and 5am, the Mr T’s franchisees have to submit a premises licence application to Reading Borough Council.
A statutory consultation has been launched into the application. You can make a representation by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.
The deadline for responses is Thursday, November 21.
Mr T’s is situated in the restaurant unit previously occupied by Doner & Gyros and China Palace.
Doner & Gyros lasted around two years after opening in Spring 2022.
Meanwhile, China Palace occupied the restaurant on the outside of the mall for years, but its owners got into trouble with the police and the council for hiring illegal immigrants in 2017, with the premises closing down in December 2019.
