Nigel Howe has responded to claims that Dai Yongge is not interested in actively selling the club after recent negotiations with Rob Couhig fell through.
It is now coming up to a year since the club was officially put up for sale, yet no progress has been made on finalising a deal.
“He’s committed to sell and he continues to commit to sell. He’s very keen to sell but wants to bring someone into the club who will continue to keep it at the highest level,” said Howe.
“Whatever the fans might think, that is his most important driver that he can bring in another buyer that will take the club forward.”
It was put to Howe that a majority of fans ‘do not believe’ that Dai is committed to selling the club.
Howe responded: “What can you say to that? They will just have to wait and see.
“There’s always a level of cynicism that comes across in every possible way when you’re trying to do something.
“I think that (cynicism) is a shame. It goes with the territory and always has done, but I think it’s a shame.
“I’m disappointed that I seem to be taking on the villain role rather than the saviour role.
“Hopefully what I’ve said today is some explanation of how the process works and how it’s not in my control to deliver it.
“It’s two parties trying to agree and there’s not a lot more I can do.
“I’m not out here to try and say things that will make the fans love me. It’s about getting the job done.”
When asked whether the fans will still have a club to support next summer, Howe answered: “Everything will be done to secure a new buyer whether I’m involved or not.
