THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has once again kept its position among the top universities in Reading, as the Times Higher Education (THE) list is released.

UoR has maintained its place among the UK’s top 30 universities in the THE World University Rankings 2027, published on Wednesday, September 30.

Reading is ranked at 27 in the UK, out of 110 institutions included in the table.

The University is ranked 219 in the world, out of almost 2,300 featured.

This is the first year THE has published individual positions for universities outside the top 200, instead of grouping them in bands.

Reading’s position is in line with the 201–250 band the University has largely held since 2018.

This year’s results show Reading’s reputation for research and teaching growing, with scores for ‘research reputation’ and ‘teaching reputation’ both rising.

Reading also climbed 13 places to 285 in the world for ‘research environment’.

The University continues to rank highly for ‘international outlook’; it is 73rd in the world, which puts it in the top 4% of universities ranked.

The university says this reflects Reading’s status as a global university with campuses on three continents and students from more than 160 countries.

Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, said: “We’re pleased that Reading remains among the UK’s top 30 universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.

“It is especially encouraging to see our reputation for research and teaching grow among academics around the world.

“That recognition reflects the quality of work across the University, and the commitment of colleagues to giving our students an outstanding education.

“With more universities entering these rankings every year, the competition keeps getting tougher.

“We’re proud of where Reading stands, and we’ll keep building on our strengths in research, teaching and international partnership.”
