READING FC boss Ruben Selles spoke about his goalkeeper situation ahead of his team’s trip to face League One’s bottom side Carlisle United on Saturday.
The Royals were put firmly back in the relegation mix after facing another points deduction from the EFL.
The latest two point penalty means that Reading are now in 20th position and just three points above the drop zone.
There has been a lot of debate among the fanbase over the goalkeeping position in recent months with David Button being consistently selected as the number one.
When asked about the goalkeeper situation, Selles said: “I don’t pay attention at all to what is going on (outside of the club) and I don’t make my decisions that way. I have my own analysis and know my process inside.
“There is always a chance for Joel (Pereira) or Coniah (Boyce-Clarke) or David (Button) to stay, they are all fighting for the goal and it is my final decision.”
Selles also spoke about his midfield which has seen both Michael Craig and Charlie Savage rotated in recent weeks in a fierce battle for a central midfield spot.
He continued: “We have been rotating between four of five players. Lewis Wing and Harvey Knibbs has been playing a lot of minutes.
“The centre of the pitch is always key for the team, if it is strong enough to dominate the ball in possession then you are closer to victory.
“With those five players we are really strong. We have found our way to do things.
“Michael Craig and Charlie Savage we have picked one of the other depending on how they are performing or the structure and the shape.
“Charlie is a player that supports us more when we play a double six or need something from the left in the build up.
“Michael Craig is more of a single six and allows the other two to be higher in the pitch when we are in possession.
“Ben (Elliott) is something different from the other four. He is a player that can hold the ball, come inside as a winger, a 10, a six and can make us play in a different way.
“They needed time and I think we have five fantastic players in the middle of the park and it’s getting difficult for me to pick three of them in the starting line-up.”
