A BAR in Reading is giving residents free drinks in return for charity donations this month to support homeless and vulnerable people.
Revolución de Cuba in Friar Street is asking customers to help its charity partners with a donation of winter wear as part of its From Cuba with Glove appeal.
It is seeking gloves, scarves, and hats which will be donated to people in need in Reading, such as those without homes, as temperatures continue to drop.
Clean garments can be handed in at the venue at 140 Friar Street, central Reading, in return for a complimentary cocktail.
The offer ends on Wednesday, January 31.
Revolución de Cuba’s Alex McMillan said: “As temperatures are forecast to drop and snow to fall, we hope that From Cuba with GLove will make a positive impact on the lives of those who live in the communities around our Friar Street venue in the town, whilst shining a spotlight on Cuban kindness.
“The Cuban people are known for their affection, gentleness and humanity and they’re sentiments that we share here at Revolución de Cuba Reading.
They explained: “The New Year is an excellent time to declutter and clear out, setting us up for 2024 whilst making a real difference to those who need our support – especially as an icy blast prepares to hit the UK.
“In return, you’ll brighten up what is no doubt a chilly January day with a deliciously fruity sunshine cocktail in a glass, as our way of saying thanks for your support.”
They added: “Even better, it’s made using Banana Peel Rum from Discarded Spirits – a brilliant brand that creates spirits from waste food.
“It’s made from discarded banana skins sourced from a food flavouring manufacturer using a Caribbean rum base–so, we’re helping to reverse needless food waste too.
“All homeless charities have been chosen by our local teams and customers and are causes close to their hearts.
“We encourage those who donate to find out more about them, and to also nominate their own worthy causes to receive warm winter accessories from us.”
