Former Reading FC captain Michael Morrison is set to join League One side Portsmouth after departing the Royals earlier this summer.
The club decided to release Morrison after the expiration of his contract after a successful three-year spell in Berkshire.
He was named as club captain halfway through the last campaign after Liam Moore was stripped of club captaincy.
Showing his leadership qualities both on and off the field during his stay at Reading, Morrison became a pivotal figure as Veljko Paunovic’s team narrowly missed out on the play-offs in the 2020/21 season where he played 35 times and scored four goals.
Morrison joined the Royals on a free transfer from Birmingham City in 2019 having captained the Blues where he spent five years in the Championship.
The 34-year-old central defender played 108 Championship games for Reading and scored eight times.
After confirming his departure from Reading earlier this month, Morrison said“My time at Reading FC has now come to an end. I look back on my time with immense pride having played over 100 games and having the honour to captain the club.
“I’ve been lucky to meet some great people and play with some special talent over the last three years.
“Enjoying a promotion push that ultimately fell short and experienced one of the best away days at Sheffield United. Not forgetting my goal at Bristol.
“Thank you for all the support over these last few years, which no doubt have been made harder with covid restrictions and points deductions. Good luck to everyone involved at Reading FC in the future.”
Portsmouth finished in 10th place in League One last season under manager Danny Cowley.
