FOLLOWING the news that chief constable of Thames Valley Police Jason Hogg is considering joining legal action against the government if it fails to block the early release of two of PC Andrew Harper’s killers, Wokingham MP Clive Jones commented:
“The murder of PC Andrew Harper didn’t happen in my constituency.
“However, I have a very clear view that his killers should serve their whole prison sentences. It’s as simple as that.
“I know that a number of police officers serving in Wokingham will have worked with and will have known PC Harper.
“They, like his family, will want to know that justice is being served.
“That is why I 100% support the Thames Valley Chief Constable Jason Hogg, who is considering a legal challenge to the early release of PC Harper’s killers.
“My Lib Dem colleagues and I are calling for emergency legislation to ensure that these killers of a Thames Valley policeman are exempt from early release.
“I am a son of someone who served in the prison service for 20 years.
“I strongly believe that someone who kills someone who is protecting the public should forfeit having their sentences cut.”
PC Harper died in 2019 when he was dragged behind a car down a Berkshire country road.
The Police Federation is contemplating going to court to challenge the early release of his killers Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers.
