Independent family funeral director AB Walker has celebrated its 200th anniversary with a special bicentennial reception at Reading Town Hall.

Founded in 1826, the family-run business welcomed colleagues past and present, partners, friends, members of the Walker family and representatives from communities across Berkshire to mark the milestone. The evening included historic photographs and memorabilia from the company’s two centuries, live music and the premiere of a special anniversary film telling the AB Walker story from its beginnings in 1826 to the present day.

Managing Director Julian Walker, the fifth generation of the Walker family to lead the business, said: “Reaching 200 years is an extraordinary milestone for our family and everyone at AB Walker. The evening gave us an opportunity to celebrate our history, but more importantly to thank the generations of families, colleagues and local communities who have trusted and supported us over the years.”

Looking to the future, AB Walker remains an independent family business providing funeral care across Berkshire and South Oxfordshire. Julian added: “A great deal has changed since 1826, but the values at the heart of AB Walker have remained remarkably consistent. We are here to provide personal, compassionate care and to support local families when they need us.
