A COMMUNITY group is welcoming visitors to an eye-opening exhibition, showcasing books which have been banned in Hong Kong.
Reading UK Stands with Hong Kong’s free viewing will give people an understanding of the restrictions put in place by the Chinese and Hong Kong governments through more than 100 literary gems which have disappeared from public libraries over the past few years.
The exhibition will feature screenings of Acton Institute’s film Jimmy Lai’s Extraordinary Struggle for Freedom as well as a dedicated reading corner.
In a statement posted on social media, the group said: “During these challenging times, Hongkongers are resolute in their determination to preserve their cultural heritage and history.
“Join us in supporting their cause by delving into these compelling stories and understanding the importance of free expression in society.
“Let’s stand together to amplify these silenced voices.”
Visitors can enjoy the exhibition on the first floor of the RISC shop, London Street, from 2pm-5pm on August 16, 10am-5pm on August 16-17, and 10am-1pm on August 10.
