Reading FC picked up an emphatic 4-0 win at the Select Car Leasing Stadium against Cambridge United, putting on a show for the record attendance crowd this season.

Goalkeeper Joel Pereira spoke about how proud he was of keeping a clean sheet after his pivotal double-save denied Elias Kuchanga.

He said: “Yeah, 100% for a goalkeeper, you know the drill, clean sheets always feel good. And most importantly, today we got the three points, and we got them with a great performance and some fantastic goals. It was a great day for this football club.”

He also talked about how strong the centre back pairing of Tyler Bindon and Amadou Mbengue were in front of him.

“They are young, but you’ve seen the way they’ve been playing for the last couple of months. I think they’vebeen fantastic.”

He continued: “Also, I’m lucky to be around such great professionals. They train well every week and they deserve to be playing.  I think they’ve been fantastic, no matter how old they are.”

The Portuguese goalkeeper also touched on the news surrounding the club and how the team have been dealing with the news ahead of such important games.

Pereira said: “We are aware of it and there is talks in the changing room, but it’s not under our control, things that are going on we don’t have any control over.”

“We have 0 control out of it, so the only thing we can do is focus on what is on the pitch and I think the players are doing a great job.”

Finally, he dedicated a message to the fans, who set a new attendance record of 15,644 for this season, after they supported the team from the very first minute.

He said: “I think the fans were amazing today.  I just ask them to stay with us, stick with us. Because we will need every single person until the end of this season.”
