Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident involving a group of teenagers at this year’s Woodley Carnival prompted concern among visitors.
The incident took place at around 6.40pm on Saturday during the annual community event, which attracts thousands of people to Woodford Park.
Officers said they are aware of an incident involving a group of young people and responded promptly. An investigation is now under way to establish exactly what happened and identify those involved.
The group is described as consisting of boys and girls aged between 15 and 17.
In a statement, police sought to reassure residents that the incident was isolated and not reflective of either the carnival or the wider Woodley community.
They said: “We understand this will have caused concern, and we want to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are not representative of the event as a whole or the local area.”
Police added that there is no ongoing risk to the public and that officers are working with local partners, including schools and community organisations, as enquiries continue.
Witnesses are being urged to come forward.
Anyone who saw what happened, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact police on 101 or via the Thames Valley Police website, quoting reference 43260296696.
Officers have also appealed for anyone who recorded footage of the incident not to share it on social media, but instead submit it directly to police so it can be reviewed as potential evidence.
