THAMES Valley Police has appointed a new Head of Crime and Criminal Justice.
The force announced today, Monday, August 3, that Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) Darren O’ Callaghan has taken up the post.
It follows over three decades of work in policing, which began in 1994 as a Police Constable in Hampshire.
After three years, he became a detective working across crime, intelligence and local policing, including The Force Crime Unit.
Following this he worked across Professional Standards , Child Protection, Major Crime and Intelligence, and as District Commander for Fareham and Gosport.
In 2015 he became Director of Intelligence, and in 2017 was selected as Head of Intelligence, Tasking and Development as a Chief Superintendent in 2017 before moving to the Joint Operations Unit in 2022.
He moved to Thames Valley Police in April this year.
He is described as having extensive strategic partnership experience at the highest levels, working with the Home Office, and he continues collaborative work with the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Protocol (JESIP) and is one of a number of specialist firearms commanders within Thames Valley.
ACC O’ Callaghan said: “I am delighted to be taking up my new role leading Crime and Criminal Justice for Thames Valley Police, and to have the opportunity to build on the great work here in the force.
“In the past few weeks, the force has been highlighted by HMICFRS as making significant improvements, but also highlights areas to work on.

“It will be a privilege to be working with our brilliant officers and staff, building on the drive to improve our investigative capability, support victims of crime, preventing harm and ensuring we achieve the best possible outcomes for them, and protect the public across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.”
