THE ROTARY club of Reading Maiden Erlegh (RCRME) has revealed a very successful 2024.

Last year the group donated more than £30,000 to charities.

Joint president of RCRME Scott Trathen said: “the public and our partners have continued to be very generous in their support, and the very high amount donated has enabled us to help a large number of local initiatives and overseas aid programmes.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has provided support.

“All the money collected goes to charity.”

Overseas, RCRME provided support to Ukraine, shelters for disaster victims and continued to get behind a national Rotary Programme to eradicate Polio.

Closer to home, it continued with its Community Food Aid Programme supporting various local foodbanks and Churches In Reading Drop In Centre (CIRDIC) as well as providing 2000 frozen meals through its partnership with Feeding the Community Charity.

It has distributed 7000 meals over the last 3 years, paid for by Rotary, distributed by Rotarians through local Foodshare organisations, and cooked by Feeding Communities’ representatives at Leighton Park School.

All these initiatives will continue throughout 2025.

Support was also provided to local children’s charities such as JACs, Camp Mohawk, Cowshed, ME2, Kids For Cancer, Acorn Nurseries, and Soulscape.

All the funds were raised locally through a Charity Golf Day at Sonning Golf Club, a Reading Charity Art and Craft Fair at Leighton Park School and a Christmas appeal at various locations.

The Christmas appeal alone raised more than £5,000, with collections by Rotarians at Henry Street, Winnersh Garden Centre, Hare Hatch, and Sheeplands throughout December
