READING Borough Council has published proposals for changes to its Post-16 Transport Policy, which governs how it sets out public transport policy for young people.
A number of plans have been put forward which include increasing the council’s focus on independent travel and the support available to help young people travel independently.
They also include a bigger emphasis on Personal Transport Budgets as an alternative form of travel assistance– an allowance given to families to be put towards transport costs.
Elsewhere proposals suggest clarification eligibility criteria and transport assessment arrangements, aimed at making them easier to understand, and some changes to eligibility circumstances.
Face-to-face consultation events are being held with the Director of Education and officers from the Home to School Transport Service. Details will be available shortly.
The consultation closes on Monday, October 5.

“This consultation looks to provide clarity around the range of travel assistance options available, ensuring that those that need it have access to support, while promoting independence and making the best use of resources where possible.
