Ten current members of staff at Reading Borough Council consistently earn more than £100,000 per year.

Reading Borough Council publishes salary bands for senior officers on its website.

The highest paid officer, Jackie Yates, who is the chief executive, earns a flat rate of £188,228.

There are 10 current members of staff who consistently earn more than £100,000.

The director of adult social care position is currently vacant.

With a salary of between £102,412 and £117,831, that brings the number of senior officers who consistently earn more than £100,000 to 11.

Meanwhile, 11 staff members have the potential to earn more than £100,000.

Non-executive directors of council services can earn between £93,804 and £109,223, according to the council’s figures.

Of the senior positions listed, only two employees do not have the opportunity to earn more than £100,000 – but they do get very close.

Kelly Hallett, the director of children’s commissioning resource and performance, earns between £93,804 and £99,970, just £30 short of £100,000 at the higher end.

Meanwhile, Louisa Dean, the council’s head of communications and marketing, can earn between £83,005 and £96,892.

Job adverts for a director of digital and IT and the director of adult social care have appeared on recruitment websites.

The advert for the director of digital and IT, offering a salary of between £93,804 and £109,223 can be found on the Local Government Jobs website.

Applications will close on Monday, May 25.

The director of adult social care featured in an advert on the ‘Study Smarter’ website, but the listing for the position expired on Sunday, January 18.

Attention has been brought to the salaries of senior staff at the council following the publication of the ‘Town Hall Rich List 2026’ by the Taxpayers Alliance.

While Reading council is not mentioned in that study, senior staff are likely to be among 4,733 local authority employees receiving £100,000 or more in total remuneration in 2024/25.

The Taxpayers Alliance also found that 1,255 local authority employees had total remuneration of at least £150,000 in 2024/25.

At Reading council, Mrs Yates earns above that amount, and executive directors can earn more than £150,000 as well.

Previously, a spokesperson for the council said: “The salaries paid are benchmarked and in line with other local authorities of a similar size.

“Director level posts are responsible for numerous public services delivered locally to many thousands of residents across Reading.

“They additionally include key roles which require specialist knowledge and experience, such as responsibility for children’s social care, public health and finance for example.

“It is important salaries are set at a level that attracts and retains staff with the required skills, knowledge and experience to ensure vital public services are delivered to our communities.”
