A READING man has struck lucky after taking home a £25,000 jackpot from a casino.

One mystery player was given something else to celebrate when he visited the Grosvenor Casino in south Reading to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary.

The 74-year-old semi-retired player, who wishes to remain anonymous, was playing a game of poker when he turned a £1 side bet into £25,000.

In Ultimate Texas Hold’em, players use their two-hole cards and five community cards to make the best five-card poker hand in a bid to beat the dealer.

Speaking about his jackpot win, the mystery player said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to have won the jackpot.

“I’ve visited the casino for a long time, but I’ve never won anything quite this big before, and what a special occasion to do so. This has made my 50th anniversary celebrations unforgettable, and it will take a while to sink in.”

Mark Stothard, General Manager at Grosvenor Casinos Reading South, said: “We’re delighted for one of our regular customers to have won the jackpot.

“To win big whilst celebrating 50 years of marriage made the night extra special– we wish him the very best celebrating his winnings.”
