One of the Green MPs has helped launch her party’s election campaign in Reading.
At a campaign rally in the town centre, Carla Denyer, the Green MP for Bristol Central said: “Over the last few years, it has been brilliant to see local Green Parties like Reading go from strength to strength.
“Greens are already the second largest party on Reading Borough Council, and in just a couple of weeks I’m looking forward to celebrating a record-breaking number of Green councillors here & across the UK.”
The rally was attended by Rob White, the leader of the Greens in the town, councillors and candidates.
Commenting on Ms Denyer’s visit, councillor White said: “We have a lot of momentum locally, and expect to win a number of new seats in this election.
“Reading voters have had enough of the Labour-controlled council.
“I’m very grateful to Carla for making the trip to Reading to support our campaign.”
National polls point towards a record number of Green wins in the election.
Locally, the Green Party is already the second largest group on the council and is the main challenger to Labour in many wards.
They say that this election is likely to see closely fought contests across Reading, with a real chance to elect more Green councillors.
Among their candidates are people working in healthcare, education, engineering and community support.
Many have been active in campaigning on local issues such as affordable housing, cleaner streets and better public services.
The visit took place on Sunday, April 19.
