Reading FC are close to completing the signing of Bristol City attacking midfielder Josh Stokes.
The 22-year-old is set to join the Royals on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan in League One with Stockport County.
Stokes joined Bristol City from Aldershot Town in January 2024 but has yet to make a league appearance for the Championship club.
Instead, he has gained experience in League One during loan spells with Cambridge United and Stockport.
He scored eight goals for Cambridge during the 2024/25 season before joining Stockport in January, where he netted six times in 26 appearances as Dave Challinor’s side reached the League One play-off final.
Reading have already strengthened their squad this summer with the arrivals of Kyreece Lisbie, Udoka Godwin-Malife and Jacob Brown as manager Leam Richardson looks to build a squad capable of improving on last season’s finish.
The Royals begin their pre-season campaign at Farnborough on Saturday before travelling to Spain for a training camp, where they will face La Liga side Getafe in a friendly.
