Earley & Woodley MP Yuan Yang will present a petition in Parliament urging an inquiry into the ownership and governance of Reading FC since 2012.

The MP teamed up with protest group Sell Before We Dai and the Supporters Trust at Trust to start a petition which has now surpassed 10,00 signatures.

The Royals moved another step closer to the end of a disastrous chapter in the club’s history under the ownership of Dai Yongge as they signed a ‘letter of intent’ with a potential purchaser of the club.

It is believed that the proposed buyer, Robert Platek, is hopeful of completing a takeover of the club, including the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground within the next four to six weeks.

Meanwhile, fans still continue to protest against the current ownership and highlight the wider problem of football ownership.

Yuan Yang said: “10,000 signatures on our petition with @SellBeforeWeDai and @STARReading.

“I will soon present a petition in Parliament, urging the Sport and Business Committees to launch an inquiry into the ownership and governance of #readingfc since 2012

“The more signatures we get, the more pressure we can put on these committees to take up our cause.”

SBWD added: “To get to 10,000 signatures in less than a week is a great achievement.

“Thanks to all #readingfc fans and fans of other clubs who have signed (including #bcfc, #stfc, #pvfc, #bhafc, #cpfc and others!).

“Now is our time to build on that. The total is still rising at this stage.”
