A SERIES of guided historical walking tours is marking the centenary of the University of Reading’s Royal Charter and its wartime history next week.
Centenary Heritage Tours: Reading and the University in Times of War comes as part of the university’s 2026 charter centenary celebrations with an outdoor walking tour exploring how the institution and the surrounding town navigated both World Wars.
Led by heritage experts, the 60-minute walk highlights key campus landmarks used during wartime, detailing staff and student military service, home front contributions, and the physical transformation of academic sites into military facilities.
The tour covers outdoor paved and gravel pathways, with participants advised to dress for seasonal weather. Admission is free, though advance online booking is required due to limited group sizes.
Centenary Heritage Tours: Reading and the University in Times of War will take place at the University of Reading’s London Road Campus on Saturday, October 17 at 11am and 2pm.
