The team behind a Christmas market in the heart of Reading town centre could be given permission to host live music and sell alcohol this year.

Every Christmas, Broad Street becomes a hub of activity, with stalls selling German sausages, sweets, treats and a bar selling alcoholic drinks near Marks & Spencer.

The market is run by Peaks Catering, which has been run successfully for several years.

Now the company has applied to host live music from 10am to 9pm each day, and play recorded music and sell alcohol from 10am to 10pm throughout the week as well.

This has been submitted in a licensing application to Reading Borough Council, which is subject to a statutory public consultation.

You can make a representation by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

What’s coming to the corner of Friar Street after years of closure?

The deadline for representations closes on Thursday, October 22.

Photos from Peaks Catering on Facebook show a ‘Hog Roast Co’ truck at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, several food trucks for the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge and past years of the Christmas market in Broad Street.

The company currently has a licence to sell alcohol from its bar from 10am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 10pm on Sundays.
