SHOWS like Interior Design Masters and Changing Rooms show that we are always up for a makeover, and it appears the decorating bug has hit Reading.

New research has revealed the town is among the top 10 cities most likely to renovate in the UK, with a 7.02% planning approval success rate.

Interior experts at Swift Direct Blinds have crowned the UK’s renovating regions by analysing the areas with the most and least new builds, the areas with the most and least successful planning applications and the cities searching the most for renovation services.

The city of Preston in Lancashire has been named the UK city most likely to renovate after being awarded a renovation score of 9.41/10. The city has a 96% success rate when it comes to planning applications and has the second-highest number of new builds per 100,000 people.

Boston, Lincolnshire, has been named the UK city area second most likely to renovate. Across the market town, annual renovation searches per 100,000 people exceed 5,500, which is the fourth highest in the UK.

Reading came in sixth, with 214 new builds started per 100,000 people, 489 planning applications, of which 463 were granted – a 95% success rate.

When it came to Renovation searches per 100,000 people, there were 3,852, giving the town an overall score of 7.02.

At the bottom of the pack is Lancaster: its residents are least likely to renovate after the research scored the city a renovation score of 0.94/10, which is considerably less than Preston in first place.

Milton Keynes has been named the UK area building the most new homes at 861 per 100,000 people, while Slough has the fewest new homes at just six per 100,000 people.

Winchester has the highest number of successful planning applications at 97.69%. At the other end of the scale, Southend-on-Sea has the lowest success rate at 76.94%.

When looking at annual online searches for renovation services, Liverpool takes the top spot. Across the city, annual searches per 100,000 people exceed 61,900.
