The Chris Tarrant Award, Alan Porton, sponsor Oracle

The founder of Reading Sports Awards has been nominated for the Chris Tarrant Award for his extensive support and leadership of local organisations, particularly in spheres of sport and health.

Alan Porton, who has raised £150,000 for charity over time, founded and organised the awards for 34 years “which have seen over 1,200 local people rewarded for their sporting contributions,” said his nominator.

He chairs Western Elms and Circuit Lane GP patients group and he is a founder member of the North West Reading Clinical Commissioning Group which consists of the chairs of all the surgeries west of Reading.

He has been a member of both NHS committees for 14 years.

Alan has also been a trustee of Reading Oddfellows for 14 years and a trustee of the Reading Sports Awards for 20 years.

He has served on a number of football leagues and is a life president of Reading Athletic Club, Reading Swimming Club, Albatross Diving Club, Reading Royals Synchro club and Reading Netball League.

The Chris Tarrant Award, which is sponsored by the Oracle shopping centre, highlights someone who lives or works in Reading who deserves special recognition.
