A CHARITY in Berkshire is set to transform an empty retail unit in Reading into a superstore this autumn.

Thames Hospice has announced it is bringing a new store to the building which formerly housed a branch of Fun and Frolic on Richfield Avenue.

The charity is planning to open its largest ever store at the site in September and work has already begun on transforming the space.

The new store will have a focus on upcycling and second-hand items, including clothes, accessories, and furniture.

It will also feature a Home Studio, which will provides services and workshops designed to help customers transform furniture and clothes they already own through alteration services.

There are also plans to install a repair shop at a later date to help maintain items.

It comes as the charity is due to close their branch in Church Street, Caversham, on Friday, July 19.

Julie Rowley, Director of Retail at Thames Hospice, explains, “Our Superstore will lead the way in sustainable charity shopping on the grandest of scales.

“It will bring together a vast selection of preloved clothes for all, vintage treasures, books and children’s toys, furniture, upcycling services, and a welcoming café all under one roof.

“We really have put a lot of thought into ensuring our customers have the best shopping experience at our new Superstore, including ample parking onsite, as well as a café serving a delicious selection of beverages and light refreshments.”

She explained: “We’d like to thank our wonderful customers for their loyal support and are very excited to be building on this success with the launch of our new Superstore.

“We’ll be relocating and supersizing our current charity store in Church Street in Caversham.

“It’s a really exciting time and I, and our committed team of volunteers, cannot wait to truly make this store something for everyone in the community.

“We want the Superstore to be a real asset for the town, encouraging sustainable living for Reading and further afield.”

Thames Hospice Superstore will open in September 2024 at 16 Richfield Avenue, Reading.
