THIS WEEK has seen the vehicles operating on two major routes in Reading refreshed in the latest slew of improvements to the town’s buses.
From Monday, refurbished buses have come to the Orange 13 and 14 routes around Woodley.
Reading Buses says the vehicles, which have been repurposed from elsewhere on the network, are set to bring a new, more comfortable experience to customers of the orange routes.
Among the upgrades are upstairs tables; more seats with more space; refurbished, comfortable seating; USB charging; free WiFi; and audio/visual next stop announcements.
The company says that orange 13 and 14 still combine to give customers four buses an hour to and from Woodley. Both services run the opposite way around the area giving customers more choice as they can get on either bus to get to Reading or Woodley.
There are no changes to the timetable following its updates on June 1.
Said Robert Williams, Reading Buses’ Chief Executive Officer; “It is great news for the people of Woodley and the surrounding area as we introduce these refurbished buses.
“They will feel much smoother and more spacious than the current vehicles and come with the high-spec ‘Reading Buses standard’ which includes the comfortable high-back seats, USB charging and free WiFi.
“We have also installed tables upstairs to match the outgoing vehicles as we know these are popular with groups and families.”
“For local travel in Woodley, there is still the special ‘anywhere in Woodley’ single fare which is just £2 which we hope further entices people to try the service.
“We have also seen a much-improved timetable introduced in June so we hope that these new vehicles will be the icing on the cake for Woodley customers and help to encourage more people out of their cars and onto the buses.”
