A BERKSHIRE artist has released a new EP exploring break-ups and failing relationships, featuring a string of Berkshire artists.

MUNBOI has released a collection of four new songs featuring the likes of Split The Dealer, Henjila, and Rose Rey–titled Weekends–ahead of a show in Reading in September.

The singer-songwriter, rapper, DJ, and producer was inspired by his parents’ love of everything from Goldie to Frank Sinatra, and says he fell in love with music ‘from day one’.

He Started DJing at 12, and freestyling on YouTube beats at 15before, at the age of 17 he started to make some himself.

Now he combines releasing and performing his own songs with running local recording studio, content house, and music social hub Turntable Media.

His work takes influence from Jamiroquai, Tyler, the Creator, and Pharrell Williams, having racked up 4 million streams and multiple Radio 1 plays.

Now he is returning with his roots and joining forces with artists from Berkshire with his new EP.

Weekends brings four new tracks, the first of which, Ghost, features the vocals of Ace Clvrk, from from being named on the MOBO Unsung list and an appearance, and performance from former VALERAS proponent Rose Rey.

The song is a break-up anthem, but also seeks to represent Reading’s Barbadian community — which is the largest outside of Barbados itself.

The next song, 8AM, also deals with break-ups, examining them from three different perspectives.

It features Earley RnB songwriter Bethia and Lo-Fi producer and rapper Tarun Puri, who hails from Maidenhead, to mix a pop feel with a folk music structure.

It’s followed up with Get Gone, which sees MUNBOI teaming up with Reading rock outfit Split The Dealer mixing frenzied vocals with soul and funk influences to tell the tale of a relationship going south.

The quartet concludes with Yesterday, a lullaby for leaving someone which marries vocals from Sandhurst-based Henjila, Maddie Ashman (hailing from Newbury), and Ray Wills.

MUNBOI is set to perform at Reading’s Oakford Social Club on Thursday, September 18, for a free show as part of Turntable Media’s work with events brand Closer To Home.
