A man has been arrested after an incident during a church service in Reading Minster Church of St Mary the Virgin.
Thames Valley Police said a man entered the church in St Mary’s Butts at about 12.15pm on Saturday and caused criminal damage.
Neighbourhood officers responded quickly to the scene, where a man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and public order offences.
Police said they understood how distressing the incident was for those attending the service and reassured the public that they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Officers remain in Reading town centre carrying out reassurance patrols.
Police also said the incident may have been recorded by members of the public and urged people not to share footage online.
Instead, anyone with information or video footage is asked to speak to officers in the town, call 101, or contact police via their website quoting reference INC-20260412-0652.
