AN ONGOING community book exchange and social event for literature enthusiasts is returning to a Reading arts venue.
Bookface is back for its 17th chapter, hosted by the Rising Sun Arts Centre, bringing readers together for an afternoon of book swaps, conversation, and warm drinks.
Organised as part of the venue’s regular volunteer-run programming, the event invites attendees to bring pre-loved books from home to trade with other local readers.
This includes zines, sketch books, altered books, mixed media, exhibition pieces, independent publishers, handmade and limited editions; using textiles, photography, illustration, printmaking and poetry.
This iteration will welcome showings from Salma Caller, with handbound books; Stefan Alexander with illustrated zines; TTRPG illustrator, zine maker, and comic artist Sar Cousins;
Redden Press and Two Rivers Press’s Anne Nolan; handmade mini books from Suzanne Carson; handmade books, textiles and origami from Rachel Knight; regulars ZAP Publishing; handmade books from The Move Up Project; and Neile Wright’s cabinet of curiosities.
There will also be an art installation from Chris Mercier.
The gathering provides a relaxed environment with tea, coffee, and homemade cake available, giving participants a space to discover new authors and discuss recommendations.
Admission to the session is free, though small donations toward the venue’s upkeep are welcome– booking is not required.
Hiring of a stall is also available.
Bookface: Chapter 17 will take place at the Rising Sun Arts Centre on Saturday, September 12, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
