A SCHOOL in Tilehurst is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a special event – the final of this academic year.
Little Heath School has been marking its 60th year with a slew of events both looking back at its history as a school and its future.
On Wednesday, students will take part in a celebration with an extended tutor period in the morning which will look at the school.
This will include archive footage and student achievements, culminating in the recent completion of the school’s Sixth Form building and central building.
The school will set out a 1960’s style tuck shop and host ice cream vans during morning and lunch break, and students will have the chance to take part in a special 60th anniversary raffle.
Organisations around Reading have contributed 60 items which will go to lucky winners.
The event will also look to the school’s future, with staff and students taking part in a time capsule ceremony.
Items of memorabilia will be collected and put into the capsule alongside a message from head teacher David Ramsden, who will speak about the schools aspirations for the future and its ethos.
They will be joined by the head of Children’s Services in West Berkshire Council as the capsule is sealed.
It will be put on display, set to be opened in 2063, when Little Heath School will be a century old.
It began by seeking submissions from alumni for its 60 Voices project, which collected stories and memories from former students about their time at the school.
This year also saw the school awarded Green Flag accreditation for their environmental efforts just one year after establishing a student-led Eco-Committee.
