CHILDREN across the country can enjoy international bestsellers, award-winning illustrators, acclaimed poets and even a film star with Henley Literary Festival’s schools programme this autumn, in-person and online.
The 2026 Festival, supported by Fane Group and with thanks to Hawthornden for the schools programme, will take place in Henley-on-Thames from October 2-11.
The 20th edition of one of the UK’s most popular book events will be the most accessible to date, with live streaming – free to schools and care homes – from two venues, alongside an increased pupil premium provision.
The full public programme of 140 conversations, talks, performances and workshops will go on sale in July.
Due to popular demand there is an increase to schools events this year, held each weekday morning from October 5-9, and now available to book.
Schools can either attend in person, with each child receiving a book as part of their ticket, or watch online for free anywhere in the country.
Lottie Brooks creator Katie Kirby will discuss her chart-topping series while fellow bestseller M.G. Leonard will bring Elizabethan England to life. Wonka star Paterson Joseph celebrates Black British history with Ten Children Who Changed the World and comedian Olaf Falafel introduces his new graphic novel series The Far-Out Five.
Younger children will be able to take part in interactive sessions with award-winning author-illustrator Sophy Henn, celebrated local poet A.F. Harrold and Joseph Coelho, the previous Children’s Laureate.
Henley Literary Festival Children’s programmer Saskia Williams said: “The schools programme is a real highlight of our year, from seeing excited children start to read their new books as they wait for the school bus to being sent such brilliant messages from pupils and teachers who join us online from across the country.
“And this is our biggest and best yet.”
