ONE of the most popular French films ever made is to be given a rare screening in Pangbourne later this month.
The village’s twinning association is to show Jean de Florette. The 1986 film was the vision of Claude Berri and is based on the novel by Marcel Pagnol. It won multiple awards, and stars Gerard Depardieu.
It tells the story of Jean de Florette, who moves from the city to the Provence. Set in the 1920s, it is an epic tale of innocence, greed, envy and revenge, as a novice farmer gets to grips with toiling the land.
The film has a two-hour run time and will be shown in French with English subtitles.
It will be shown from 6.45pm on Sunday, January 28, at Pangbourne Village Hall. Entry is £7, and drinks will be available.
