AN EVENT held on the Thames, at Saturday’s Pangbourne Fete, has boosted funds for borough good causes.
As part of the weekend attraction, dragon boat racing organised by Pangbourne Rotary Club caused a wave of interest and excitement for visitors.
The fete, held annually in Pangbourne Meadows, enjoyed perfect summer weather.
“Racing was competitive, with several close finishes,” said Pangbourne Rotary Club president Brian Davies.
“In a thrilling final, newcomers, No 5 Young People edged out previous winners, Humphrey’s Furry Friends from Kennet Valley Free Church by half a second.”

“But everyone was a winner, having had a great fun day out,” he said.
“The crews and more than 20 Rotarians, their families and friends went home exhausted, but already looking forward to next year.”
The racing raised more than £4,000, which will be distributed to Faith Christian Group, National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, and the club’s own Charitable Trust which contributes to worthy causes throughout the year.
Pangbourne Rotary thanks sponsors Cedar Lodge Care Home (EQ Care Group), Purley Park Trust, Pro-tar Surfacing, and the many businesses which contributed to raffle prizes on the day.
It also thanks the crews that raised funds through their own sponsorship, and Henley Dragons for running the racing.
