Wokingham Festival this Bank Holiday Weekend brings a host of bands to entertain, more than 40 across a range of styles, and from freshly formed grassroots bands to legends with more than 5 decades of experience. In addition to the the headliners, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Country Chicks UK, The Ogretones, Who Ate All the Crayons, One Last Day, and Splink, here’s just an appetiser of what you can expect.
The Abbey Ghosts – Newly formed, this is only their second gig, but the Reading-based (as their name suggests) band is comprised of a group of 8 very experienced musicians, and their folk punk will kick off proceedings on the main stage on Saturday.
The Dazed Minded – Another Reading-based band, The Dazed Minded have been honing their brand of indie sleaze garage rock by regular gigging over the last couple of years, getting better every time. Their sing-along anthems will get the crowd going on Sunday on the Marquee stage.
The Bluepers – Inspired by early 70s classic blues rock, The Bluepers bring youthful energy, a great sense of humour, virtuoso playing and showmanship. They brought the house down on the Marquee stage last year, and this year open the main stage on Sunday.
The Sting Operation – While the majority of the bands are playing original material, there is still room for bands playing a more familiar repertoire, and there are few tribute acts better than the Sting Operation, who play the music from Sting’s career, from The Police to the later solo hits, on Sunday evening.
Perfect Beasts – Darren Redick, who presents his daytime radio show on Planet Rock, is the host on Bank Holiday Monday, and has appeared as a guest on stage in the past. This year he’s also appearing with his band, Perfect Beasts, who aim to save rock music with their bangers and anthems with a technical bent.
