THE NEW political party headed up by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana is set to launch in Reading with a first public meeting this week.

The meeting will feature speakers from various community campaigns, an open discussion on the party’s founding principles, and a chance for residents to get involved.

The party is still yet to settle on a formal name, which is reportedly to be decided by its founding conference later this month.

Among the issues it is advocating for are an increase in affordable housing, public ownership of utilities, and living wage; condemnation of genocide in Gaza; a defence of LGBTQ+ rights; and a supposed rejection of corporate donations to the party.

‘Your Party’ is a left-leaning party which has seen a tumultuous start, including the launch of a membership drive via email which went live without sign-off from Mr Corbyn–a move which was then referred to the Information Commissioners Office.

This was later described by current party leaders as having been “resolved.”

The Reading event is one of more than 20 regional assemblies set to take place ahead of a full leadership vote planned for 2026.

A spokesperson for Your Party Reading said: “People in Reading are being failed by a political system that puts the interests of billionaires and corporate lobbyists before the needs of workers.

“The Labour Party has abandoned its roots and shifted so far to the right that there is now very little difference between Labour, the Tories, and Reform.

“Working closely, with local campaigns, unions and other parties on the left, we intend to fill this space with a genuinely democratic and popular force that is capable of tackling the cost of living crisis.”

The ‘Your Party’ meeting takes place at Watlington House, Reading, from 2pm on Saturday, November 8.
