A 21-year-old man has died after a collision involving two motorbikes in Reading.

The man, from Reading, was involved in the crash on Vastern Road at about 02:15 BST on Saturday, 26 September.

Police said they believe one of the motorbikes was carrying a rider and a passenger.

The 21-year-old was taken to hospital following the collision but died on Sunday. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the investigation and have since been released on bail.

A 21-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while above the alcohol limit, driving while disqualified, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and theft of a motor vehicle.

A 20-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and failing to report an accident.

Police Sergeant Matt Cadmore, the investigating officer, said the death was “tragic” and appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or seen the motorbikes to come forward.

He asked drivers and pedestrians who were in the areas of Vastern Road, Caversham Road, Napier Road, Forbury Road and Kenavon Drive between 01:00 and 02:20 to contact police.

The appeal also includes Queens Road, Kings Road and Reading town centre.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with dashcam, CCTV or other footage from the area.

“Tragically, a 21-year-old man from Reading, who was involved in the collision, has now lost his life,” Sgt Cadmore said.

“If you have footage from those areas during this time or saw two motorbikes then please leave details via our website or call 101, quoting investigation reference 43260502260.”

Police had previously appealed for information to identify a taxi driver who drove towards the scene shortly after the collision, believing they could be a key witness.

Officers have now confirmed the taxi driver has been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting investigation reference 43260502260.
