Reading FC CEO Joe Jacobson has reflected on his first season at the club under the ownership of Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair.
Jacobson admitted that the club wants to win promotion to the Championship as soon as possible, but highlighted the challenge ahead of them.
Speaking to the Elm Park Royals podcast, he said: “We want to be in the championship as soon as possible.
“It’s not easy because there are 23 other teams in the league with the same aspirations. We want to be right up there and we know success at this football club happens on the pitch.
Reflecting on last season, he continued: “On the pitch we need to produce and last season was probably where the club is at right now.
“We had loads of good moments and spells where we were unplayable and won lots of games. We fell away towards the end disappointingly but we know we’ve got the capabilities of getting in the top six but we’ve realised where we need to improve and get better.
“We may not have the top budget in the league but how can we be different and get our one percents and create a football club striving in that direction.
“We all need to realise what winning looks like, we want to create an elite environment.”
He also explained the process behind last summers transfer window and believes the club are in a better position this time around.
He said: “When Rob took over the club, and it’s no fault of the recruitment or anyone, but because the club were previously unable to sign players or hand out contracts through the EFL, we were on the back foot from day one and were always playing catch up. We couldn’t create the squad we wanted to from day one.”
