Reading Community Learning Centre is a charity that helps ethnic minority women and their families who live in Reading.

They are based in Central Reading, the RCLC has been operating as an independent charity since 2007, and as part of the national charity, Workers’ Education Association, since the mid-1990s.

They are currently looking to recruit a new female chair to lead their Board of Trustees. The role of the chair is to lead meetings with the Trustee Board and act as a spokesperson for the charity where needed. The chair also provides support to the Centre Manager and acts as a channel of support and communication between the Board and members of staff.

As this is a key role in the organisation they are seeking someone with great communication skills and leadership abilities including motivational skills and being able to work effectively as a member of a team.

For more than 30 years Reading Frontline has served the community by providing expert help to those who are under the burden of debt, often through no fault of their own.

The charity specialises in offering independent, expert benefit advice, in addition to debt and budgeting advice.

Right now they have a vacancy for a volunteer debt and benefit adviser, who would work one day per week from their offices in the centre of Reading.

You will be working with clients distressed by the burden of debt, so a sympathetic and patient approach is a must. Basic finance and budgeting skills would also be helpful.

A basic knowledge of the software Word and Excel with general computer literacy and keyboard skills are needed.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided to new volunteers. Back-up and support is always available as you work through clients’ problems.

Since 1942, Casualties Union is the charity whose volunteers spare time to train and practise casualty simulation.

Their aim is “To advance for the public benefit education and training in first aid, the treatment of illness, nursing, rescue, accident prevention, care in the community and similar activities, particularly through casualty simulation.”

Would you like to learn SFX injury makeup and take part in emergency service training exercises? You will be trained how to respond with medical accuracy. It is creative, sociable, fun and makes a huge contribution to those who are preparing to face who knows what tomorrow.

Exercises range from simulations for medical training to fire and rescue, vehicle and plane crash scenarios, extrications from small spaces and multi-agency major incidents. They are also looking to increase the diversity of their members, as accidents and emergencies happen to people from all backgrounds and walks of life, including the disabled and those with English as a second language.

Take a look at our brand new Reading Volunteer Connect platform for details of these and many more opportunities to volunteer via our website, www.rgneeds.me. Want to get in touch? Drop us an email at volunteering@rva.org.uk or call 0118 937 2273.
