THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has maintained its place in international rankings and risen in place for a number of subjects.
The QS World University Rankings published last week have scored the university highly for its provision in subjects such as arts and humanities, engineering and technology, and life sciences.
In arts and humanities, the university is ranked joint 91st in the international top 100, placing 19th in the UK.
It has jumped from joint 261st for social sciences and management to joint 183rd, and jumped 60 places to joint 337th in engineering and technology.
Life sciences and medicine also saw a rise from 348th to 321st.
In agriculture, Reading is the top ranked UK institution after Oxford and Cambridge, and 10th in the UK for Earth and marine sciences.
Overall, the university makes the listings in 23 separate rankings by QS, with positions in the top 150 in accounting and finance, art and design, languages, business studies, development studies, and geography.
QS rankings take into account a number of measures of academic reputation, the employability of a university’s graduates, and citations for published research.
Overall, 1,559 institutions were ranked in the 2024 report, which also broke down listings into 55 individual subjects.
Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, said: “Reading’s global reputation for excellence is well deserved, in subjects that have been an established part of life here for more than a century–such as agriculture–as well as in subjects with increasing relevance such Computer Science and Management Studies.
“I am grateful to my colleagues, students, and our partner organisations around the world, for their hard work and dedication.
“They can be proud of their achievements.”
