Reading FC have confirmed that academy players John Clarke and John Ryan have both penned new one year contracts with the club.

The Royals are gearing up to begin pre-season training this week with many more reinforcements to the squad expected in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, it is now confirmed that the two academy graduates wil be part of the first-team setup next season.

Both had missed much of the last campaign with long-term injuries but will be ready to go for the start of the season.

First Team Manager, Noel Hunt, commented: “John’s [Clarke] had a couple of unfortunate years of injuries, so it was a duty of care for us to bring him back right, and he’s shown an exemplary attitude to give himself a chance. He’s still young enough to progress, and he’s a great, likeable lad. All the boys love him, and he’ll be great for team morale.

John [Ryan] was doing really well and obviously had that really nasty injury. It showed his character that he continued to play on until half time despite having a torn cruciate ligament. He’s worked so hard over the last year to get himself back, and to keep himself in the condition he has is a huge credit to him. He’s young enough to keep improving and he’s such a great character, the boys love him, and he’s a great player.
