A BY-ELECTION could be triggered in Caversham after a councillor announced they would be stepping down.

Reading Borough Council has issued notice that a seat in Caversham Heights has become vacant following the resignation of Labour councillor Jenny McGrother.

The returning officer must receive two requests, each by separate electors, before a by-election is triggered.

If such requests are received, a date for such an election would be submitted for within 35 working days of the request.

Cllr McGrother had been in office since the May elections in 2024, and has served on the Safer Reading Neighbourhood Forum, the Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport Committee, and Traffic Management Sub-Committee.

Conservative Cllr Isobel Ballsdon and Labour Cllr Sam Juthani remain as the two serving councillors in the ward.
