The Forest School were able to avenge last years narrow defeat as their U15s football team claimed victory in the National Elite Cup.

The team enjoyed a remarkable journey to the final, conceding just once. Playing at home of West Bromwich Albion FC, The Hawthorns, Forest faced Thomas Telford School in the final.

More than 250 fans made up of students, staff and parents turned out to support the team with a sea of blue and yellow scarves and flags, donated by the school’s PTA.

With only seconds on the clock remaining, Forest were granted a lifeline with a penalty. Forest’s number nine, Milo Barbieri, stepped up under immense pressure and coolly slotted the ball home. With the match locked at 1-1 after full time the squad faced the dreaded penalty shootout.

The man of the moment goalkeeper, affectionately dubbed ‘Fantastic Franky’, Frank Rose was incredible between the posts, as he saved two penalties, firstly to his bottom left and then to his bottom right giving his team the early edge and sending Forest fans into celebration. Tyler Adjei, Elijah Imafidon and Joseph Ntege slotted the ball home with confidence showing resilience as he had missed his penalty during the match.

With nerves of steel, Milo Barbieri stepped up once again to take the fourth and final penalty. The commentator stated ‘he could really write his name into The Forest history books’ and oh boy he did, smashing high into the roof of the net to clinch a 4-2 victory on penalties.

Special mentions to Julien Garate for receiving Player of the Match and Tyler Adjei racing back from representing England in Croatia on the U15 camp.

Headteacher, Ms Shirley Austin, said: “This victory is more than just a trophy, it is a celebration of character, teamwork, and the thriving community which encourages all to be the very best they can be and Aspire To Become Elite.

“Sport makes you and breaks you. We never forget the years of commitment students and families put in for one great day. “I personally thank Mr Quartermaine, The Forest staff and students, and a special thank you Mr Adjei for bringing Tyler back at midnight to play, and the FA for granting permission.”

Mr Reahgan Quartermaine, Coach and Head of PE at The Forest, added: “This has been a special year, with Forest history constantly being rewritten. “We have now managed to win the National Elite cup 3 times in 4 years, but can this team go back to back….. Well done all, you have done yourselves, me and the school proud.”
