Reading FC fans have reacted after it was confirmed that star striker Jack Marriott has picked up another injury.
The forward, who has been a key figure since arriving at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, is set for another spell on the sidelines after sustaining a fresh setback.
He had only returned last week in Reading’s defeat to Cardiff City, but will now miss this weekend’s trip to Rotherham United. Reading’s season has ended with a damp squid with the Royals now unable to make the top six after a recent poor run of form.
Marriott is the fifth highest scorer in League One this season with 16 goals and boasts by far the best minutes to goal ratio having only played 24 games which means he has netted every 111 minutes.
Many fans have reacted strongly following news of his injury, with some questioning why he was brought back last week despite Reading not having anything left to play for.
One fan said: “Jack Marriott injured again. If that’s a recurring issue, it seems insane that he was brought back this close to the end of the season! Hopefully he is back ready to go for the start of pre-season.
Another said: “Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a manager who saw the value in letting players recover before rushing them back? The playoffs had long gone by the time last Saturday rolled round so what was the point in bringing Marriott back? Moronic.”
One more added: “Absolutely bloody typical, 100% the wrong move to “Wrestle with the physios” to get him back. Leam is a clown, just shockingly bad decision after decision.”
The latest issue adds to growing concern among supporters, with no clear timeline yet confirmed for his return.
Reading will continue to assess the extent of the problem in the coming days as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures without their leading forward.
