ONE OF Reading’s community groups has totted up its total for charity events last year, showing a significant impact in supporting charity organisations in 2023.
The Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh (RCRME) has announced that it raised more than £30,000 pounds for charitable causes across three major events.
These included a charity Golf Day at Sonning Golf Club, the Art and Craft Fair at Leighton Park School, and its Christmas appeal events around Reading.
The Christmas appeal alone raised around £6,500, one of the best festive appeals ever seen by the club, through December 2023.
The money raised has provided support to the victims of earthquakes in Morocco and Turkey as well as continued funds for the ongoing Rotary programme for the eradication of Polio.
Closer to home, it also continued to help the Community Food Aid Programme, which sees monthly support to various food banks.
Its partnership with Feeding the Community also saw the club pay for and distribute to foodshare organisations.
Richard Nicholson, President of RCRME said,‘the public and our partners have continued to be very generous in their support and the very high amount donated has enabled us to help a large number of local initiatives and overseas aid programmes.
“We are very grateful to everyone who has provided support–100% of all the money collected goes to charity.”
