A COMMUNITY group will hold an open meeting to get to the bottom of some of Reading’s unsolved mysteries.
Reading u3a, a learning co-operative of retirees, will explore a secret wedding, an unexplained death which rocked the Royal Court and a political rally which could have foiled Cromwell’s grip on power at Abbey Baptist Church on Monday, July 24.
Titled Berkshire & Oxfordshire Churches: hidden gems & stores, the talk will offer a glimpse into some of the many historical and sometimes hidden churches and churchyards in and around the county, as well as the people associated with them.
It will be delivered by Catherine Sampson, chairman of Berkshire Family History Society – some of the stories will be familiar to visitors, while others may be hearing them for the first time.
All are welcome and doors open at 1.30pm.
