IT IS the only village festival held in a town and it’s a cracker.

The seventh Village Easter Festival to be held in Reading takes place between Thursday April 6 and Monday April 10 with something for everyone.

The Festival is a beer and music affair held in the Eldon Square Conservation area of Reading, locally known as The Village. The event is largely organised by volunteers.

There are three locations, The Lyndhurst and The Retreat are the two main ones with the famous After Party happening at the Polish Club. All three are within a short space of each other so there’s no need to hike from one to the other, just like in a real village.

Among the highlights are the alluringly graceful and charismatic jazz singer Fleur Stevenson who is joined by the talented guitarist Hugh Turner at The Lyndhurst on April 9, while the day before, Lily Beck & Friends bring a special touch of soul music, Motown and big powerhouse vocals to the same location.

At The Retreat, The Barnstormers (Thursday, April 6) are guaranteed to get you up and stomping your feet along to their eclectic mix of songs. The mysteriously named, Uncertainty of Passion, (Saturday, April 8) provide an eclectic mix of original songs with a European flavour.

The Festival will end with a spectacular After Party at The Polish Club (Monday April 10) with Afro-jazz dance and, no doubt, a few surprises.
