READING Repertory Theatre has laid out its schedule of school-focused events aimed at bringing fun, workshops, and stage experiences to young people.

The summer begins with a West End Experience running in late July. with a week-long workshop exploring the songs from hit musicals such as Wicked, Hamilton, Six, Paddington, and more.

There will also be the opportunity to perform the smash-hit songs, choreograph dances, get top tips from industry professionals and perform in their very own West End Musical showcase.

Two workshops will run concurrently– Juniors, for 5-10yrs, and Seniors, for 11-16yrs.

From 3-7 August Summer on Stage brings the magic of theatre into a safe and welcoming environment where everyone can feel comfortable and supported to express themselves through drama.

The week is tailored to children and young people with additional needs, with experienced SEN theatre practitioners present and able to create the best possible course for those who sign up.

Summer on Stage focuses on developing communication, social and performance skills through a range of drama-based activities, including improvisation, role-playing, movement and music.

The aim is to build confidence and self-esteem, encourage creativity, and provide opportunities for everyone to showcase their talents.

Mid-August offers 2 district workshops; Play In A Week is the ultimate challenge: Working alongside professional theatre practitioners young people will devise, write and perform a play in a week.

This holiday camp provides an inspiring atmosphere in which to unleash creativity, develop new skills and make new friends.

It provides young people with the chance to focus on the aspects of theatre that interest them most and share their work with family & friends on the Reading Rep stage at the end of the week.

This workshop runs from August 10-14, for 11-16yrs.

Superheroes On Stage has been designed for those small superheroes age 5-10yrs who are looking for a summer challenge.

Digging deep and using all their creativity, attendees will work together to write and perform a superhero story on stage.

They will have the opportunity to perform it for family and friends at the end of the week. Running from August 10-14.

Drama School Prep is designed to support performers preparing for drama school auditions with focused, practical training across all key disciplines.

Workshops run across three dedicated days–singing, dancing, and acting–with one discipline explored per day.

Participants can choose to attend one, two, or all three days, depending on their individual needs and goals.

Drama School Prep runs from August 17-19.

To round off the summer fun Create, Move, Perform! is a workshop which helps young people discover their creativity in a supportive environment, developing drama skills and exploring the behind-the-scenes magic of theatre.

Running for both juniors (5-10yrs) and seniors (11-16) this workshop takes place at Coley Park Community Centre on August 28.

Sam Amestoy, Director of Youth Theatre at Reading Rep Theatre said of this year’s offerings: “This summer, Reading Rep’s holiday workshop programme is bigger and more exciting than ever–there truly is something for everyone.

“Our flagship West End Experience returns, now available for both age groups, and will once again feature visits from brand-new West End stars.

“Alongside much-loved favourites such as Play in a Week, we’re also offering a wide range of workshops for young people eager to explore every aspect of theatre, from production to performance.

“Programmes include Superheroes on Stage, Summer on Stage, and Create, Move and Perform, with opportunities designed to engage all participants, including those within the SEN community.

“Whatever workshop you choose, the focus will always be on having fun while developing new skills, building confidence, and discovering the magic of theatre.

“There’s no better place to be this summer, so come and join us at Reading Rep. Whether you attend one workshop or several, we can’t wait to welcome you and share in the joy of theatre together.”
