THE BLOOD donation centre in Reading has announced it now has a permanent home once again–including a more streamlined all-in-one service.
After moving to a temporary site in Reading Bridge House, on George Street, The NHS Plasma Donation Centre has at last secured a permanent place there.
The centre is moving down from its current position on the fourth floor to the first floor, where it has a newly-designed space, described as a “step-up” from its previous lodgings.
As well as plasma, the centre now accepts blood and platelet donations, offering an all-in-one centre, with new comfortable seating, TVs, and WiFi.
Alongside the new permanent centre, the NHS team is also piloting a plan to help recoup the costs of their travel when attending their appointments.
For those attending a plasma appointment during the pilot period, a travel expense form can be submitted to claim for expenses such as those from parking, bus, tram, and train fares, as well as clean air zone charges.
Up to £20 can be claimed.
It is part of a pilot scheme to see if help with reimbursing travel will help encourage donors to donate more readily, or those who haven’t done so before to go for the first time.
The new permanent donation centre is set to open in the Autumn.
